Some of our Key Stage 3 pupils have been learning how to look after babies as part of their Parenting Awareness Unit in PSHE.
Handmade babies were designed and made using various materials for a more hands-on, creative approach to learning. Spending time looking after their ‘babies’ helped the students to identify and learn about the emotional and physical demands of having a new-born.
Being responsible for them during a whole day meant that they needed to be aware of identifying appropriate support (an active PE lesson is no place for a baby!), which meant sourcing a trusted babysitter. This unit also included identifying potential hazards in and around the home as well as basic medical advice.
